Excuses vs reasons
How about some lame excuses for not being around? The first one is that this injury from the auto accident just isn’t healing. Second, the holidays. 12 days off was lovely, but it didn’t include thinking about posting about bipolar tips. Third, a personal crisis that tried to eat me for breakfast. I am obviously here, so it did not successed. So far so good!Lame sounding or not, though, are they really excuses or reasons? I don’t need to tell you, but as someone with bipolar disorder, I do need to know for myself.
- Is there something going on that can trigger or is triggering a bipolar episode?
- Is there a way I can fix that something?
- If not, how do I deal with the bipolar triggers?
People without manic depression need to know these types of things too. It becomes really important, though, when we are dealing with mental illness.Sometimes things that may sound like excuses to a healthy person, are actual reasons for something if someone has a mental illness. Things that may just be a pain in the rear for most, may become overwhelming for someone with bipolar illness. So it’s really important for us dealing with the illness to figure out whether something is an excuse or a valid reason. That’s the first step in dealing with it.
